Yesterday was quite an experience! I decided to do something way off the beaten path and head out to the foothills of the Chaing Mai mountains to visit an elephant conservation center. That’s right, I rode an Asian elephant …
First we got a 3 hour class in basic commands and the essentials then had some lunch under the palm and bamboo hut.. then it was time to take the journey into the jungle with the elephants. The experience was for sure once in a life time!
Let me say these jolly giants don’t stop eating.. they eat an average of 150 kilos of food per day and drink 50 liters of water on average!!! After being a “mahout” for a day I will never understand the phrase “you eat like a pig”… it should be “You eat like an Elephant”!
There is no shortage of food vendors, fruit stands, and my personal favorite the “shake ladies”
I was touched… how sweet
Then the part they somehow forgot to mention when I signed on for this….
Just before we left my new friend decided she was hungry!
I spent the day tooling around the old city of Chaing Mai (finally), I started my walk about 10am and didn’t stop for 5 hours! Snapping photos left and right- I think there are more “Wats” (Thai word for Buddhist Temples) in the 6 square miles I was in today then dirty politicians in Washington!
This is a perfect, how to on how to cook authentic Phad Thai
