Welcome to BeyondtheKitchen.com, a blog about food, travel, cooking, chefs, recipes, and culture. BTK is the brainchild of Chef David Gilbert, who has worked at the best restaurants and hotels from coast to coast in America and in numerous foreign countries.
In June 2009, Gilbert borrowed a friend’s backpack and headed off to Thailand for a month, to explore a part of the world he was always fascinated about. The time had come for a radical change from the only life he knew. Gilbert hung up the chef jacket (for a while) and went to explore the world’s food scene!
Most recently Chef Gilbert has returned from Shanghai, China where he served as the Executive Chef representing the U.S.A. at the World Expo.

| Join Chef Gilbert (and a few guests) to see the turmeric colored sands of Namibia through the eyes of an accomplished chef. Come along on a bike ride through the canals of Amsterdam, tea tastings at the camphor tree-table with the famous Tea Boss of Shanghai.

Closer to home you can also join Chef Gilbert for organic raw food in California, BBQ on the back roads of Texas, and take part in the great cheese steak debate in Philly! Food is only the first glimpse of a wider view. Every gastronomic experience shapes who we are and creates new memories. |
