We scouted out the town for more than 6 hours by foot, and disappointed to see that 99.9% of the items were brought in from other states and countries. For instance these chocolates to the left were all from Boston! BOSTON, that’s right… I guess everything these days is outsourced. Simply put it reminds me of the old Pace Picante Sauce commercials “made in NY City…”!
I had some high hopes for food finds here, but it quickly became one thing after another until I pretty much gave up and accepted that Fredericksburg is nothing but “smoke and mirrors”. We made the best of everything- just when we were going down the helpless route we stumbled across a local bakery.
The decadent chocolate goodness was sitting under the cake cover, I know someone’s eyes lit up!
We have Thai Massages booked- I can only hope that they are as good as the price tag attached! (looking forward to seeing how authentic they are…) Lets hope it’s a step up from the food scene!
A weekend away was just what I needed… Hoping for a plane ride to an international destination, but time did not permit. I somehow ended up staying in Texas, not to exciting for this international globetrotter. The trip started off with a 3+ hour drive to the Texas Hill Country to the tourist town of Fredericksburg. The town screamed tourist-ville, not my style but with good company and fellow foodie we set out to explore.
The overall expectation was not so high in my books (still a little bitter I was not on a plane to some exotic destination), I had to dig deep inside and suck it up! The first morning started off with a drive through the town to decide what kind of mischief we were going to get into. Bingo, I spot an olive oil shop! That started my day on a good note!
*Fredericksburg is known for its vineyards in Texas. Let me say this on the matter- I can appreciate the effort to all those who are attempting to produce the next Napa Valley, but hone into reality! The climate and minerals in the soil are not front runners for growing grapes! More on that later!
